Ten Tonne Challenge
Ten Tonne Challenge is being organised by Faiths4Change and Liverpool World Centre and supported by Merseyside Recycling and Waste Authority as part of the Community Fund 20/21.
Did you know that the clothes we wear have a huge environmental impact? Textiles are the 4th biggest contributor to climate change; affecting nature and humans alike through their impact on water, biodiversity, pollution and the human right to safe, fairly-paid work.
In this project, we are aiming to divert ten tonnes of clothing and textiles from the rubbish bin. This is an ambitious challenge. One that we're calling on pupils, their families and teachers to take up. Schools in Knowsley, as well as Liverpool and St Helens, are invited to take part. Teachers will access online training, curriculum linked resources with lesson plans and virtual assemblies. Pupils will take part in face-to-face and online sessions full of creative ideas and actions. Schools that take part will earn up to £500 through running a textile collection.
Two courses are available: one suitable for upper KS2 and a second for KS3 and KS4. Places are fully funded but are limited so I'd encourage any school that's interested to attend one of our briefing sessions via Zoom. These are running on Tuesday 6th at 3:30pm, Tuesday 13th at 3:30pm and Wednesday 14th at 4:30pm and will be 15 minutes long.
The launch of the schools' Ten Tonne Challenge compliments a new recycling project that is on offer to all Knowsley residents this year. Community charity Faiths4Change is working with Knowsley Council to offer an online activity programme aimed at helping families reduce, reuse and recycle materials in crafty, creative and fun ways.
